We are looking for new trustees to join our small, motivated team based in Exeter and are particularly interested in hearing from anyone with a financial background.

What we do:

Established in 1981, Magic Carpet provides creative opportunities to help build self-confidence, self-esteem and a sense of well-being through the creative arts. It brings together sessional artists with people from all walks of life who often find it difficult to access the therapy that can be found in creativity in an atmosphere of compassionate, mutual support and respect.

We currently run eight regular groups across Exeter, Exmouth and Honiton with nearly 100 participants whose lives are enriched through painting, ceramics, music, drama, sculpture and print making…. And there are regular projects, sometimes in partnership with local agencies when funding allows.

We run projects in various locations in the area but have an office base in The Phoenix on Gandy Street and a new base on Paris Street, Exeter.

We are looking for:

Someone with a financial background who can support our CEO and board of trustees in:

  • Monitoring our cash flow and reporting this to the board to aid in decision making
  • Setting financial targets for our CEO for funding bids/income streams
  • Drawing up budgets that ensure we maintain our operational reserves as well as looking at ways to expand our income and build growth in the future
  • Liaise with the payroll operator and accountant we currently have contracts with

We have recently migrated our financial management over to Xero and would love someone who can help us ensure our financial operation is as efficient and streamlined as possible moving forward.

What is involved:

The board meets either in person or online about once a month and there are small groups who meet up in between to focus on specific areas of work in a sub-committee: Finance, Projects, Personnel, Publicity, Policy & procedures.

We are a flexible team. Timings for sub groups are arranged around work and personal commitments of those who are involved.

Interested?

Then we would love to hear from you.
