Magic Carpet's Chair of trustees We thought we would start the new year by introducing you to our Chair, Jacky Cox. In this post Jacky tells us why she is passionate about volunteering and especially for Magic Carpet. "I am a huge fan of volunteering – it brings new talent, ideas and help to organisations, meaning they can do more. For those of us who volunteer, it gives us a chance to be part of a team, to contribute and support a cause we believe in. I started volunteering with Magic Carpet 14 years ago when I first moved to Exeter. It was a brilliant way for me to meet people and to learn more about how to support people creatively, working alongside skilled artists and enthusiastic group members. I know that people volunteer for all sorts of reasons – for me it has always been about wanting to develop, to use the skills I have within an organisation I believe in and working alongside people who are passionate about what they do. These days my volunteering sees me in the role of co-chair of Trustees. I see less of our group participants but get great satisfaction working with the trustee team (who are also a very passionate bunch!) Having a role in supporting Magic Carpet to continue delivering services to people who might otherwise struggle to access the arts is hugely rewarding and it’s great to be a part of it".
