Who we are and what we do

Magic Carpet is an Exeter-based charity that has been running for over 40 years. We bring together creative practitioners and adults with learning disabilities and mental health difficulties for weekly art and drama groups.

We believe in making creativity accessible to all and to promote the arts as a fantastic vehicle to develop skills, meet people and build self-confidence.  We make art, act, sing and most of all talk, socialise and make friends.

Inspiring growth, well-being and compassion, through the power of creativity for people challenged by health or social circumstances”

Our Groups

We run a range of arts-based activities in Exeter, Honiton and Exmouth every week, each led by a specialist creative practitioner. If you or someone you know would like to join any of our groups, please complete the form using the button below.

We will get in touch with you with more information.

Volunteering

Our volunteers are a valuable part of our team, helping us create engaging creative opportunities for our participants.

We are always keen to hear from enthusiastic people with an understanding of the needs of vulnerable individuals who would like to support our work. Volunteering with Magic Carpet will give you a chance to be part of a team, can be a brilliant way to meet people and to learn more about how to support people creatively, working alongside skilled artists and enthusiastic group members.

our Impact

Magic Carpet has over 80 participants who attend one or more of our weekly groups for up to 48 weeks a year, some of whom have been with us for over 20 years!

We are a centre for medical school placements from Exeter University; giving first and second year medical students the opportunity to experience how creativity and community can benefit people. We also host placements for Art Therapy MA students from The University of South Wales, leading the next generation of creative practitioners.
